Land Information New Zealand Geodetic Database



This directory contains the New Zealand Geodetic Datum 2000 coordinates for 

selected geodetic marks in the Land Information New Zealand Landonline system 

(http://www.landonline.govt.nz/index.shtml).



The marks are listed in separate files for each Land District.  Each file

is a list of marks, one per line, in comma-separated format.  These files

can be readily loaded into spreadsheet and database software.



Each file contains the following columns of information

   Geodetic Code: a four character code used to uniquely identify the mark

   NZGD2000 Latitude: the latitude of the mark (in decimal degrees)

   NZGD2000 Longitude: the longitude of the mark (in decimal degrees)

   NZGD2000 Ellipsoidal Height: the height of the mark above the NZGD2000

             ellipsoid in metres.  Note that this is not the same as the

             height above sea level

   NZGD2000 Order: the order of the mark (an indication of accuracy).  

   Name: The commonly used name of the mark.

   AltName: An alternative name for the mark

   MrkTypeCode: A code defining the type of mark



Note that LINZ may change this format at any time in the future. The most likely

change will be adding additional columns of data.



All coordinates are in terms of the NZGD2000 coordinate system.  More

information about this can be found at 







Note that coordinates of order 5 or less have been surveyed in terms of 

NZGD2000, whereas lower order marks (order 6 and greater) are derived 

from cadastral surveys or by transforming coordinates from other coordinates,

and may be significantly less accurate.  For more information about
